Wentworth Hunter Pace - June 6, 2021

After Margaret and I had such a fun time at the fall hunter pace, we opted to go again this spring! This time, while I rode Rejoice again, Margaret rode her horse Jester and had a friend ride Ladyhawke. All Kennebec Morgans!! Jester and Rejoice have the same dam and Jester and Lady share the same sire. Unfortunately instead of a lovely late spring day, we had one of the first intensely hot and humid days of the year. It was definitely a bummer, but the ride was mostly in the shade of the woods and we had a great time!  most of the fences were 3' coops but we found a small log and this hay to jump haha Until we didn't. 😑 We brought along a third friend who rode Margaret's older mare, Ladyhawke. She's a good rider but hasn't known Ladyhawke for very long and didn't realize how much of a cranky boss mare she could be at times. She kicked Jester right in the front leg just about halfway through the ride, and while the cut itself ended up not being a big deal in the...

Standardbred Old Friends

Back in 2013, my friend Ellen Harvey, who works for the USTA, asked if I would be willing to be a part of her new book, Standardbred Old Friends , which she was writing together the famed photographer Barbara Livingston.  Of course, I said YES!  She decided to include Dreamy with McKeever Hanover, my friend Shelly's gelding.  The book was designed after Barbara's Old Friends books she had done for Thoroughbreds.  The Standardbred book features forty three distinguished horses of the breed in the twilight of their careers. We spent a gorgeous fall day at Popham Beach at sunset.  We had so much fun and Barbara got some really great shots.  Ellen wrote the narratives to accompany the photos. So being in a cool book clearly wasn't enough!  Ellen asked us if we would like to guest marshal/outride at the historic track in Goshen, NY over July 4, 2014.  Another resounding YES!  Sadly, it was POURING on July...

Equine Affaire 2013

Dreamy and I were lucky enough to attend the four days of Equine Affaire in Massachusetts from November 7-10, 2013.  I trailered her down on the Wednesday beforehand, after a full day of work. That meant we arrived after dark, and we were on our own (ugggg, friend who had wanted to come backed out at the last minute).  We did stable with our friend Kelly from VT and her Standardbred TC, which was nice.  Members from SPHO-MA organized the event, and I think they did a great job! We participated in a clinic and the Standardbred demo.  I am really glad I had the chance to do this, especially with Dreamy. Here is an article from the USTA. Here is the demo video . Dreamy's stall in C Barn at Equine Affaire- MA Standardbred Row This was the breed booth in the Stroh Building. Dreamy was cranky about being here in the breed stall, so she only spent a few hours. I was disappointed, but luckily TC and two other STBs took over her slots. She was much happi...

USTA Blog

"...the mares teach folks at horse shows all over New England just what a Standardbred can do – in every imaginable discipline." Thanks to Ellen Harvey at the USTA for the shout-out in her blog !  I love when my mares are featured!  Ellen is a wonderful supporter of the Standardbred athlete, both on the track and off!  :-D

National Standardbred Horse Show 2011

For the fourth year in a row, I made the trek to the Horse Park of New Jersey for the National Standardbred Show.  It is a long eight hour drive but it is always fun to see everyone.  The SPHO-NJ and SBOA of NJ present it each year; I am a member of SPHO-NJ and try to support the group as best as I can from Maine. This year my friend Shelly brought along her gelding McKeever.  They came down with me the first year 2008.  And my friend Tania (who came with Dreamy and me to WEG last year) came along as our support person (and she got to show my horse too!  More on that in a minute…) After bringing Dreamy down to the show for three years ( 2008 , 2009 , 2010 ) I decided to bring Reva this year!  I knew that we would not really be competitive in the huge classes and she would have her share of baby moments, but I knew it would be a good learning experience.  And having Tania along to help, I knew it was a good year to try it.  Dreamy is...
