She's Not a Baby Anymore!

Early spring saw some immediate changes in how Ellie carried herself and our dressage work started to truly improve.  There had been times last year where flat work felt like a fight and I wondered to myself if she was ever going to just relax and listen to me haha.

Thankfully, as the title suggests, Ellie has suddenly grown up in front of my eyes.  We have had some really stellar lessons lately, where I feel like I am suddenly able to make things click.  We also had an incredibly frustrating dressage lesson a few weeks ago where Ellie was in rip-roaring peeing heat (not normal for her) and we worked through 45 minutes of her refusing to bend right.  So, ya know, as much as she is improving, she is still an opinionated redheaded mare!  ;-)

But, I have to give her credit because she is really working her little butt off for me!  Sadly, I had not been able to schedule in a jump lesson before our first three-phase, which led to me riding her ridiculously backward at a slow trot the entire …

PRODUCT REVIEW: SSG All Weather Riding Gloves

I completely adore the SSG All Weather gloves.  I use them for both schooling and showing.  They are inexpensive enough that you don't feel bad when they wear out, but at the same time they are well made and certainly nice enough for the show ring.  I have worn them at rated USDF shows, "A" rated hunter shows, and "AA" rated Morgan breed shows.

Now, I think leather gloves are best for showing, because I am a purist.  :)  But I actually HATE the feeling of leather gloves.  They drive me nuts.  And I have very small hands....I am only 5 feet tall and my hands are broad but short.  Most glove fingers are too long and I cannot wear them.

But I have found the SSG All Weather gloves to fit me quite well for whatever reason.  I have the leopard print for schooling (LOL), and three pairs for showing: white (dressage), black (hunter), and brown (driving).  Actually I have two pairs of black I found a pair on sale once and could not pass them up.

I love the Aquasuede palm, which is soft and easy on the hands.  They are not sticky but when they get wet they are not slippery either.  The back (top) is sort of a stretchy fabric that does not seem to fade that I can see.  The wrists are secured with Velcro, which make them easy to get on and off.

The SSG website says:  "Wears like iron! Washes like a rag!"  This is probably the best feature of this glove, as they are completely machine washable.  I hang them to dry and they look brand new.

My current schooling gloves have holes underneath my ring fingers (wedding rings on the left, moonstone ring on the right) but other than that look great.  I have had them for over 10 years.  I almost wish they would wear out because I think I want the pink leopard print next!  LOL!!!  I cannot imagine riding without these gloves.  I love them!

  1. I'm a big fan of these gloves too - they eventually wear out, usually between the fingers, but they're pretty hard wearing and the ability to wash them is a big plus.

  2. I am in LOVE with the pink leopard print, but I'm the barn fashionista (well, not just at the barn but everywhere else as well) and I would like for them to match everything, and sadly pink leopard would only match things few and far between. It would drive me nuts! I like black. It's simple, it matches everything. And white horse hair and dirt show up WONDERFULLY on it ;)

I have the SSG Technical gloves and I have had them since January, and they have a lovely hole on the right thumb (for some reason the way my hands are built my thumb ends up really pushing on the seam at the end, like it's too long or something) so I'm investing in the SSG Hybrid gloves because they have leather parts and Aquasuede palm and hopefully won't wear out as quickly (plus they look snazzy). If these still don't work, then I'll hit up those all-weather gloves, because they look like they would be the perfect investment. And I could get them in pretty colors :)

But agreed that anything with Aquasuede is AMAZING! Best material ever.

  3. I adore these gloves too! They are incrdeibly
tough and are my glove if choice for all my endurance rides, except those in the rain.
