Wentworth Hunter Pace - June 6, 2021

After Margaret and I had such a fun time at the fall hunter pace, we opted to go again this spring! This time, while I rode Rejoice again, Margaret rode her horse Jester and had a friend ride Ladyhawke. All Kennebec Morgans!! Jester and Rejoice have the same dam and Jester and Lady share the same sire. Unfortunately instead of a lovely late spring day, we had one of the first intensely hot and humid days of the year. It was definitely a bummer, but the ride was mostly in the shade of the woods and we had a great time!  most of the fences were 3' coops but we found a small log and this hay to jump haha Until we didn't. 😑 We brought along a third friend who rode Margaret's older mare, Ladyhawke. She's a good rider but hasn't known Ladyhawke for very long and didn't realize how much of a cranky boss mare she could be at times. She kicked Jester right in the front leg just about halfway through the ride, and while the cut itself ended up not being a big deal in the

International Helmet Awareness Day

I am definitely an "every ride, every time" helmet wearer.  I try not to be judgey towards those who choose not to wear a helmet, but to me, it seems like a no brainer to just wear a helmet in order to save my life (or prevent a major catastrophe).  Are they sweaty and kinda gross?  Sure.  But I would rather deal with a sweaty head and helmet hair any day over losing my life.

Helmet selfie - This may be the first selfie I have ever taken of myself LOL!
While I have a nice IRH Intec XR9 helmet for showing, I found the Ovation Deluxe Schooler Helmet years ago to use at home and I love it!  It has vents and is pretty lightweight, so it is super comfortable even on the hottest of summer days.  Plus, at a really decent price point, I don't worry about it getting banged up or yucky.  However, it has definitely been getting a funky smell lately (gag) and it is just looking super sad.  It hasn't been in a fall, but I knew it was getting older.

So, in August, I almost bought a new one, but I remembered International Helmet Awareness Day was coming and I figured I would wait for the deals!  LOL always a bargain shopper!

Leading up to the weekend of September 16-17, I received a ton of emails from various tack stores touting their sales.  I did a fair amount of searching around on Saturday, trying to save the most money on an already cheap helmet haha.  Lo and behold, Dover Saddlery had the best deal, with the helmet at only $41 with free shipping!!  Dover with free shipping?!?!  It was a Christmas IHAD miracle!  It arrived just a few days later and I have to say, it makes my old helmet look even grosser than I thought LOL!  I don't know how the old helmet got so shiny, but I realized just how gunky it was once I saw the new one!

Pretty (l) and gross (r)
I happened to check the date on my old helmet before I unceremoniously dropped it into the trash, and I realized it was eight years old, so definitely time for a replacement.  I felt kinda bad throwing it out, but I don't think it could have been recycled?!

Anyone else find a good deal on IHAD?  Have a favorite helmet?  I am now lusting over Lainey Ashker's grey outfit I saw the other day on Instagram, so I want a grey helmet!!

I need that grey helmet, jacket, and bonnet!  (The horse is damn sexy, too!) 😍

    1. There is definitely a time when the smell is just too far past the point of no return!

  2. I happened to fall off on Sunday and was able to order a replacement helmet that night on sale because of IHAD. Winning?
