Wentworth Hunter Pace - June 6, 2021

After Margaret and I had such a fun time at the fall hunter pace, we opted to go again this spring! This time, while I rode Rejoice again, Margaret rode her horse Jester and had a friend ride Ladyhawke. All Kennebec Morgans!! Jester and Rejoice have the same dam and Jester and Lady share the same sire. Unfortunately instead of a lovely late spring day, we had one of the first intensely hot and humid days of the year. It was definitely a bummer, but the ride was mostly in the shade of the woods and we had a great time!  most of the fences were 3' coops but we found a small log and this hay to jump haha Until we didn't. 😑 We brought along a third friend who rode Margaret's older mare, Ladyhawke. She's a good rider but hasn't known Ladyhawke for very long and didn't realize how much of a cranky boss mare she could be at times. She kicked Jester right in the front leg just about halfway through the ride, and while the cut itself ended up not being a big deal in the

What's in YOUR Tack Room? Series

I love reading about what other people use in their horsekeeping arrangements, and last summer I started a little series "What's in YOUR Tack Room?"

I didn't get very far...

Showing Edition (show tack and clothing, which has changed slightly with the new pony)

Trailer Edition (what is in the trailer tack room)

First Aid Kit Edition

Grooming Tote Edition

What else should I write about?  School is winding down, and I am not taking any graduate courses this summer, so I am going to need to do some writing haha!

Weird weather in Maine yesterday, as it was raining at the house/barn but not in the fields haha.  This is what happens when the storm follows the river on the opposite side of the property.  We got in a good 45 minute ride before I hurried home because the entire sky darkened.  Just as I was untacking in the barn, it POURED!

  1. Other ideas:
    - the back seat of your car edition (though perhaps less relevant for you since you keep your horses at home!)
    - the laundry room edition (I've had a set of polos waiting to be rolled for literally 14 months now...)
    - the retired tack edition (or am I the only one who removes worn-out-but-beloved pieces to places of honor?)
    - the aspirational edition (dream tack room)

  2. i like these kind of posts too and will usually do an update on one small microcosm or another as my frontline of products, tools, or gear shifts. i'm always interested in hearing about how ppl handle any hoof issues and what tools/products are useful there. or any mane/tail grooming tips/tricks/products/tools. and obvi first aid - often easiest to do when there's an actual specific injury or condition to treat haha (tho obvi i hope you don't find yourself in that situation!). feed room, dietary stuff, supplements, etc can also be interesting - esp as it may differ from horse to horse or season to season. or like, general barn mgmt stuff - like what's in your tool shed haha - or how your horse care differs from your cow care etc.

    1. I agree, I have learned about so many new products and new ideas from bloggers! I like the feed room/supplement idea, as I totally should have been a feed rep for a feed company (I LOVE researching feeds and supplements LOL). Or even the horse vs. cow thing could be fun!

  4. Did you do one on the tack room in your barn? I feel like we've seen pics before - lots of ribbons and cool stuff... :-)

I'm such a tack ho too - if I had a blog still I could do a western series!

    1. Ohhh I did a photo tour the summer after we moved the girls home to the new barn, but I could do an actual tack room one!

  5. I love these kind of posts (they also make me feel guilty about how messy my stuff is and I use that guilt as motivation to tidy up a bit)

    1. Hahahaha! I guess whatever it takes, right? I have wicked OCD tendencies (on top of the lovely anxiety), so being neat and organized is definitely a blessing and a curse at once. ;-)
