Wentworth Hunter Pace - June 6, 2021

After Margaret and I had such a fun time at the fall hunter pace, we opted to go again this spring! This time, while I rode Rejoice again, Margaret rode her horse Jester and had a friend ride Ladyhawke. All Kennebec Morgans!! Jester and Rejoice have the same dam and Jester and Lady share the same sire. Unfortunately instead of a lovely late spring day, we had one of the first intensely hot and humid days of the year. It was definitely a bummer, but the ride was mostly in the shade of the woods and we had a great time!  most of the fences were 3' coops but we found a small log and this hay to jump haha Until we didn't. 😑 We brought along a third friend who rode Margaret's older mare, Ladyhawke. She's a good rider but hasn't known Ladyhawke for very long and didn't realize how much of a cranky boss mare she could be at times. She kicked Jester right in the front leg just about halfway through the ride, and while the cut itself ended up not being a big deal in the

CMDA Kur for a Cure Dressage Show - October 5, 2019

I honestly had thought our last dressage show of the year was going to be the Esprit show at the end of August.  I started gathering my scores together to submit for year-end awards, and I realized that if I did just one more show, I could submit scores for CMDA (Central Maine Dressage Association).

Plus, doing this show would give me yet another two tries at Training 3 before we do First next year.

AND, because it was the "Kur for a Cure" show, I would be able to dig out all of the pink things I bought several years ago for a Drive for the Cure event at the track and have been hanging onto just in case we ever did something similar.  Even though pink really isn't a good color on a chestnut, it was really fun to dress up a little for a show!  And the flowy scarf was uhhh, kind of fun flowing out behind me while I rode LOL!

of course, I couldn't use the bell boots or polo wraps,
but the pink overload was fun anyway haha

my oldest son took the pics, videos, AND helped watch his little brother
he's a good egg

Ellie looks strangely put together here,
but it is such an adorable photo!
I made a stupid mistake in Training 3 and almost forgot the first canter depart; therefore OF COURSE I didn't prepare my poor horse and we got the wrong lead.  OMG our last dressage show and here I am bringing back an old habit from the spring LOL!  But Ellie was actually pretty good and I got it fixed before we started the circle!  Plus, she came right down to a wonderfully calm medium walk after the canter, which she would NOT have done in the spring after a botched lead.  It would have made the rest of the test full of tension.  So I am pretty happy with that development!

Our second attempt was a million times better.  I feel like it was probably the best Training 3 test we have ridden, and it felt like a good way to end our dressage shows for the year.

We ended up with a pair of 63.62% for second place in the first test and first place in the re-ride!

I actually have video evidence of BOTH tests, thanks to my oldest son,
but for some reason, my phone and laptop do not want to play nice.

  1. The more I ride the more I celebrate those times when you botch something but don’t let it ruin the rest of the ride. That isn’t easy to do
