Wentworth Hunter Pace - June 6, 2021

After Margaret and I had such a fun time at the fall hunter pace, we opted to go again this spring! This time, while I rode Rejoice again, Margaret rode her horse Jester and had a friend ride Ladyhawke. All Kennebec Morgans!! Jester and Rejoice have the same dam and Jester and Lady share the same sire. Unfortunately instead of a lovely late spring day, we had one of the first intensely hot and humid days of the year. It was definitely a bummer, but the ride was mostly in the shade of the woods and we had a great time!  most of the fences were 3' coops but we found a small log and this hay to jump haha Until we didn't. 😑 We brought along a third friend who rode Margaret's older mare, Ladyhawke. She's a good rider but hasn't known Ladyhawke for very long and didn't realize how much of a cranky boss mare she could be at times. She kicked Jester right in the front leg just about halfway through the ride, and while the cut itself ended up not being a big deal in the

So my computer is still being fixed, but it seems as though the end is in sight.  I should be able to pick it up tomorrow!  Yay!  :)

Anyway, just thought I would post something funny.  I was putting away some of my show saddle pads the other night and decided to take all of the pads out of the (huge) trunk to organize them.  As I was sorting them into piles (show vs. schooling, dressage vs. AP vs. western, etc, etc.) I began to count.

Now, I have owned a horse for 18 years and have been riding for 26.  That's a long time to accumulate horsey stuff.  And now with the three mares, I have a bad habit of justifying buying more tack because I own more horses.  But in my defense, none of Sparky and Dreamy's cob sized equipment and tack fit Reva.  So I DO have to buy larger sized items! LOL!

I sort of wish I had not counted the saddle pads.  I feel like a bit of a glutton.  But it is hard to not purchase a saddle pad with a good price, sort of like the $5 fitted AP one I nabbed at WEG.  Or to pass up the cute maroon saddle pad that I got embroidered with Dreamy's name at a horse show in 2009.  And I have won a few of them as trophies, the newest being the one from MHA this year in fact!

Any guesses?????  How about a contest until Christmas Eve......I will send out a fun horsey surprise to the person who guesses the exact number (or closest to exact!)

  1. I'm going to guess "18", one for each year you've owned horses!

p.s. I feel your pain. How many stirrups can one person possibly need? I own 4 saddles, all of which have the appropriate number of stirrups attached. Yet I have a BOX (a large rubbermaid box!) of stirrups that I also own...why? It's not like they break very often!

  2. Um... 36? Just a random number that popped into my head, haha.

I don't even want to count mine. Will had a sensitive princess skin complex so I justified getting many extras over the years... And since about half of them have his name written on them (from when I was at a big boarding barn and things liked to walk away) I don't feel right using them on Jabby...

  3. ooh - saddle pads are so tempting to buy - all of the nice colours/styles... hard to resist.

Ok - my guess is 31.

I did a quick count in my head of my saddle pads and came up with 8, for one horse!

  4. OMG what IS it with saddle pads? I have to actively stop myself from buying the newest latest and greatest ones in the catalogs. But they are so cute! and colorful! and CONTOURED! LOL, anyway, I feel you:)

I'll throw out a ridiculous guess (only because if I had 3 horses I would have a preposterous amount as well) and say...35. 35 Saddle Pads.

Happy Holidays to you and your ponies!

  5. I have about 20 for one horse, so my guess is 61.

  6. How about 50? That seems like 26 years worth of pads. I have a bunch too, what is worse is the number of saddles I own and I only have one horse ;)

  7. hmmm...I had 33 saddle pads by time I stopped leasing Phoenix so that was only 5 years of horse ownership with one horse. I am thinking you must have about 15 dressage show pads since those are white and get dirty all the time and yours always looks nice in the pictures. You had 5 different themes I think from WEGS and you have had several while doing the track stuff and out reach events so square pads alone I bet you are over 40. Then there are probably 5 saddle shaped pads for when you show hunters and I am thinking only a few western pads. Add that to 10 you have probably won or are too nice to use and that makes my guess 55. And if it is anything under that you should feel good about not having a lot of stuff!
