After Margaret and I had such a fun time at the fall hunter pace, we opted to go again this spring! This time, while I rode Rejoice again, Margaret rode her horse Jester and had a friend ride Ladyhawke. All Kennebec Morgans!! Jester and Rejoice have the same dam and Jester and Lady share the same sire. Unfortunately instead of a lovely late spring day, we had one of the first intensely hot and humid days of the year. It was definitely a bummer, but the ride was mostly in the shade of the woods and we had a great time! most of the fences were 3' coops but we found a small log and this hay to jump haha Until we didn't. 😑 We brought along a third friend who rode Margaret's older mare, Ladyhawke. She's a good rider but hasn't known Ladyhawke for very long and didn't realize how much of a cranky boss mare she could be at times. She kicked Jester right in the front leg just about halfway through the ride, and while the cut itself ended up not being a big deal in the
Always a helmet. Yes, I have ridden without one before (the few times I showed saddleseat), but even I know that was a stupid thing to do (on a young horse, no less). I don't mind wearing a helmet, I don't have any vanity about helmet hair, and they honestly really don't bother me.
I am not a helmet nazi, going around on social media calling people out over not wearing one, because I keep my comments/thoughts to myself. But I do admit my heart drops when I see someone without a helmet and I was SUPER thrilled when USEF passed their new helmet rules.
Riding is a sport full of risks and I think it is smart to minimize the risks when possible!

ReplyDeleteYeah, my hair does what it wants and I just do me, so I never understood the "I don't want helmet hair" argument for not wearing a helmet. It's like, your hair actually looks nice enough at the barn that you care LOL!
DeleteI agree, helmet every time.
ReplyDeleteFor sure! No reason not to IMO! :-)
DeleteI am definitely a helmet nerd. I have had a few concussions already in my life so it just makes sense to be careful. I am slightly tempted to do some helmet-less photos with the horses in xmas wreaths but have so far talked myself out of it.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I have always thought it is not "if" we get hurt with horses, it is just a matter of "when". I'd always rather give myself every opportunity to be save (and stay alive!) around these guys! :-)
