Wentworth Hunter Pace - June 6, 2021

After Margaret and I had such a fun time at the fall hunter pace, we opted to go again this spring! This time, while I rode Rejoice again, Margaret rode her horse Jester and had a friend ride Ladyhawke. All Kennebec Morgans!! Jester and Rejoice have the same dam and Jester and Lady share the same sire. Unfortunately instead of a lovely late spring day, we had one of the first intensely hot and humid days of the year. It was definitely a bummer, but the ride was mostly in the shade of the woods and we had a great time!  most of the fences were 3' coops but we found a small log and this hay to jump haha Until we didn't. 😑 We brought along a third friend who rode Margaret's older mare, Ladyhawke. She's a good rider but hasn't known Ladyhawke for very long and didn't realize how much of a cranky boss mare she could be at times. She kicked Jester right in the front leg just about halfway through the ride, and while the cut itself ended up not being a big deal in the

Day 2- The last time you rode a horse and what you did

The last time I rode Ellie was yesterday, after not riding her for two days because of a yucky, nasty rainstorm that has left most of Maine without power.  Uggg!  Thank goodness we have a generator because we are told it could be days or even up to a week without power.  We haven't had school either, so it has been a strange week!

Mostly we just tootled around the ring (which is still pretty mucky from the rain) and went out into the adjacent field to trot between the Christmas trees.  My goal was just to get her forward and bending.  I had no real agenda to work on anything.  Without a ton of sunlight left and with the footing not 100%, I just wanted to get on.

We have been working on getting out and about around the farm too, so I did hack her up and down the driveway.  She is getting super brave and I am happy for that!  None of these pics are from our most recent ride, but from the last ten days or so!  Sometimes I forget to bring my phone with me LOL!

This was last week when we hacked in her pasture

Cattle are still the devil, but at least instead of being scared of them, she is now extremely disdainful LOL!

Messy hair, don't care

We have a nice 1000'+ driveway to hack up and down to cool out!

  1. You're so much better at a) keeping up with the blog prompts and b) doing all the things than I am! Getting on and getting going is a challenge, especially when the weather is crappy. I just want to stay on the couch!

    1. I hear you! It was chilly and slightly rainy today and I did NOT want to ride. But I also knew I would regret it and forced myself out the door. Sometimes I feel like I have to force myself out there a lot, but I never regret it! ;-)
