Wentworth Hunter Pace - June 6, 2021

After Margaret and I had such a fun time at the fall hunter pace, we opted to go again this spring! This time, while I rode Rejoice again, Margaret rode her horse Jester and had a friend ride Ladyhawke. All Kennebec Morgans!! Jester and Rejoice have the same dam and Jester and Lady share the same sire. Unfortunately instead of a lovely late spring day, we had one of the first intensely hot and humid days of the year. It was definitely a bummer, but the ride was mostly in the shade of the woods and we had a great time!  most of the fences were 3' coops but we found a small log and this hay to jump haha Until we didn't. 😑 We brought along a third friend who rode Margaret's older mare, Ladyhawke. She's a good rider but hasn't known Ladyhawke for very long and didn't realize how much of a cranky boss mare she could be at times. She kicked Jester right in the front leg just about halfway through the ride, and while the cut itself ended up not being a big deal in the

Day 3 - Your best riding

Hmmm...this is kind of a tough one.  I mean, I have won plenty of equitation classes before, but does that really constitute my "best riding"?  Would staying on a bucking horse count as my best riding?  I don't know exactly how I would define my best riding.

Honestly, sometimes my best riding has nothing to do with being judged or winning a ribbon.  I also don't think I can define my best riding by one moment in time.

I lie.  Denny Emerson telling me "perfect" while schooling XC is obv my best riding hahaha!
I think my best riding is when I have either had a breakthrough with my horse on a difficult movement or when I have finally figured out how to be effective.  Generally the horse goes properly BECAUSE I have gotten my own act together.

Imagine that!
Sometimes I can get my act together and jump things without my leg being dumb (Dreamy)
I have been riding for nearly 33 years, but I am no where near professional.  I don't do everything perfectly.  It takes me longer to train my horses because sometimes I just can't get myself together, in order to get my horse together.

Sometimes I remember how to actually look like a dressage rider (Dreamy again)
But that's OK!  Because this is just for fun, and I know I am overall a decent rider.  My best riding to me is when I am doing the best for my horse, so she can be her best.

I'd like to think my best riding is when I start with a first ever ride (Snappy here)...
And progress to a happy horse who can do fun things with me!
