After Margaret and I had such a fun time at the fall hunter pace, we opted to go again this spring! This time, while I rode Rejoice again, Margaret rode her horse Jester and had a friend ride Ladyhawke. All Kennebec Morgans!! Jester and Rejoice have the same dam and Jester and Lady share the same sire. Unfortunately instead of a lovely late spring day, we had one of the first intensely hot and humid days of the year. It was definitely a bummer, but the ride was mostly in the shade of the woods and we had a great time! most of the fences were 3' coops but we found a small log and this hay to jump haha Until we didn't. 😑 We brought along a third friend who rode Margaret's older mare, Ladyhawke. She's a good rider but hasn't known Ladyhawke for very long and didn't realize how much of a cranky boss mare she could be at times. She kicked Jester right in the front leg just about halfway through the ride, and while the cut itself ended up not being a big deal in the
Obviously, my first riding lesson impacted my life the most, because without my parents FINALLY agreeing to let me ride horses, my life would not be the same at all!
But if I had to pick one ride, it would be the four days I spent riding at the World Equestrian Games in 2010. (Warning: the linked blog post is long with tons of photos, but it is kinda fun to read about!) It is definitely one of my most favorite horse memories and impacted my life in so many ways. I shipped my horse myself all the way to KY which was crazy and gave me a huge confidence boost in driving my rig. I met a ton of great people and enjoyed spending time with friends. I got to RIDE MY HORSE AT WEG (yes, yes, it was just four riding demos, but still. WEG. It was WEG, people!)
We had to apply ahead of time to ride in the demo, and it certainly was an honor to be accepted. It was a huge confidence boost to ship and ride my horse in such a faraway place. Dreamy was absolutely perfectly behaved the entire time. I could not have asked for a better mare and she just took everything in stride. We made an overnight pit stop in New Jersey both on the way down and back home, we stayed at a friend's house near the horse park, we rode in a practice ride at the Red Mile, and then we spent four days at the actual horse park. Being chosen and then riding at WEG was such a once-in-a-lifetime experience and something that I will probably never have a chance to do again.
