Wentworth Hunter Pace - June 6, 2021

After Margaret and I had such a fun time at the fall hunter pace, we opted to go again this spring! This time, while I rode Rejoice again, Margaret rode her horse Jester and had a friend ride Ladyhawke. All Kennebec Morgans!! Jester and Rejoice have the same dam and Jester and Lady share the same sire. Unfortunately instead of a lovely late spring day, we had one of the first intensely hot and humid days of the year. It was definitely a bummer, but the ride was mostly in the shade of the woods and we had a great time!  most of the fences were 3' coops but we found a small log and this hay to jump haha Until we didn't. 😑 We brought along a third friend who rode Margaret's older mare, Ladyhawke. She's a good rider but hasn't known Ladyhawke for very long and didn't realize how much of a cranky boss mare she could be at times. She kicked Jester right in the front leg just about halfway through the ride, and while the cut itself ended up not being a big deal in the

Day 13 - A video of your horse/you riding

Here are a few fun memories caught on video I was lucky to share with Dreamy!

First, here is our first ever attempt at showing sidesaddle in a Training 3 test at the State of Maine Dressage Association show (used to be called Southern Maine Dressage) on August 4, 2013.  It was definitely NOT our best ever test and that stretchy trot circle at the rising trot at the end was super tough in a sidesaddle haha, but I am still glad we tried it. That summer I was doing well with her at First level, but I opted to try the sidesaddle at T3 (I guess I was a wimp LOL).

Next is our Standardbred demo from the 2013 Equine Affaire.  It was definitely neat to ride in the Coliseum!

And lastly, a funny little video of us jumping a little log in tandem with four other riders at the end of a foxhunt at Echo Ridge Farm back in November 2012.  Dreamy and I are on the far left.  Shutterfly won't let me embed it here (not my account), so you will have to click the link!

    1. Pairs jumping would be fun!! Dreamy was never a fan of having horses too close to her (still cannot be turned out with ANYone and we all know how I fell off at the fox hunt...),so as you can see I stayed waaaay to the side on this tandem log jump haha! Dreamy would never have dealt with a pairs class, but Ellie would probably love it!

  2. How does one do a rising trot in a sidesaddle? I had one for a short while and I A) only used it on my gaited horse and B) never tried rising.

    1. It is the same as rising trot in an astride saddle, only you wish you were not doing it. It takes practice and it sucks lol!!! :-P

    1. Crazy, yes. Brave, ehhhh maybe! Hahaha! Dreamy has always been the horse I can do anything with, so we did! Definitely had a lot of fun before she had to be retired.
