Wentworth Hunter Pace - June 6, 2021

After Margaret and I had such a fun time at the fall hunter pace, we opted to go again this spring! This time, while I rode Rejoice again, Margaret rode her horse Jester and had a friend ride Ladyhawke. All Kennebec Morgans!! Jester and Rejoice have the same dam and Jester and Lady share the same sire. Unfortunately instead of a lovely late spring day, we had one of the first intensely hot and humid days of the year. It was definitely a bummer, but the ride was mostly in the shade of the woods and we had a great time!  most of the fences were 3' coops but we found a small log and this hay to jump haha Until we didn't. 😑 We brought along a third friend who rode Margaret's older mare, Ladyhawke. She's a good rider but hasn't known Ladyhawke for very long and didn't realize how much of a cranky boss mare she could be at times. She kicked Jester right in the front leg just about halfway through the ride, and while the cut itself ended up not being a big deal in the

Day 9 - Any injuries that occurred from riding

I have been lucky that besides sprains and aches, I have not injured myself from riding. Now that I say that in a blog post, we all know what will happen....!!  :-(

My fall off Dreamy at a fox hunt in November 2012 gave me extremely sore ribs (though not broken) and a sprained ankle.  At my fall at a horse show in April 2010, I ended up with just a sprained ankle as well (yep, horse tripped at the canter and I tumbled off front - very undramatic and I still placed fourth in the class LMAO).

I do think that as I age, my body doesn't bounce back as it once did, so after a long show day or lots of no stirrup work, my muscles ache a bit.  But it is nothing that a little Advil doesn't help.

So, this was a boring post haha, but here are cute pics of Ellie being brave and staying behind me and the ground so I don't get any injuries!  ;-)

Hacking out in her grass pasture/jump field, because even though she is out there every day, it can be scary when you are under saddle haha!

Ellie still thinks the steers are the devil, but at least she now looks at them in disdain rather than fear!
Being brave on her first time going up and down the driveway!

    2. And I know, right? Riding is such a dangerous sport! I tend to be brave but cautious, which helps!

    1. Isn't she the cutest, though!? Ohhh yeah, I have totally hurt my fingers in the barn slamming them in something or in other stupid ways! There are too many unknown factors with horses to not stay safe!
