Wentworth Hunter Pace - June 6, 2021

After Margaret and I had such a fun time at the fall hunter pace, we opted to go again this spring! This time, while I rode Rejoice again, Margaret rode her horse Jester and had a friend ride Ladyhawke. All Kennebec Morgans!! Jester and Rejoice have the same dam and Jester and Lady share the same sire. Unfortunately instead of a lovely late spring day, we had one of the first intensely hot and humid days of the year. It was definitely a bummer, but the ride was mostly in the shade of the woods and we had a great time!  most of the fences were 3' coops but we found a small log and this hay to jump haha Until we didn't. 😑 We brought along a third friend who rode Margaret's older mare, Ladyhawke. She's a good rider but hasn't known Ladyhawke for very long and didn't realize how much of a cranky boss mare she could be at times. She kicked Jester right in the front leg just about halfway through the ride, and while the cut itself ended up not being a big deal in the

Day Five: 30 Day Challenge

Day Five: The last time you rode your horse and what you did

This post is totally depressing to me.  Because of the very cold temperatures and the nearly four feet of snow out there, riding is pretty much nonexistent right now.  That makes me sad and cranky.  The last time I rode both Dreamy and Reva was a relatively warm day (above 20 degrees and sunny...) back in January.  :*(  It was still cold enough for me to forgo tack and just rode them each in their bridles.  I quickly found out how hard it is to get onto Reva's tall back without stirrups when I am only five feet tall (think lots of shimmying....LOL!)  With both mares, I just plowed around through the snow in the field and managed a few short trot sets.  The snow is deep and the horses are not in good enough shape to work too long in it.

Since then, the weather and temps are still not very conducive to riding.  I wish I had an indoor at my disposal...oh well.  The only reason I might ever want to board again would be for an indoor.  But to me, the negatives of boarding (the hassle and drama) would far outweigh the one positive (an indoor).  And I would not be able to own three horses if I boarded.....so....I make do with what I have!

The last time I rode Sparky was on Christmas Day.  I was able to ride all three mares that afternoon...which was a nice feeling!

It is even snowing right now........SIGH.  I really hope I can start riding for real soon!  C'mon spring!

  2. Sorry to hear you cannot ride but it is actually a little relieving that I am not the only one out there struggling through these unridable times. It makes me frustrated and cranky too. I agree C'mon spring!

  4. Oh Aarene, I bet it all melts for you by then! March is the month for melting! :-)

Amy, it kind of feels better to know others are suffering too! LOL! ;-D

Dom, it is hard not to! But after 26 years of riding with no indoor, I guess I am used to it. :-( March is a cruel month though! LOL!
