Hidden Brook Farm Dressage Schooling Show - June 2, 2019

Ellie and I did a show at our lesson barn this past weekend instead of taking a lesson.  I would have done a lesson on Saturday before the show, but my instructor went to NEDA Spring with her eldest daughter, who was able to get her last Grand Prix score for her USDF Gold Medal!!!  So that is a good reason to not be able to lesson haha.

I admit I was a little bummed about our low scores at the SMDA show two weeks prior.  I know a score of 6 (60%) is called satisfactory, but I really thought our performance was better than a low 60%.
I was determined to ride well and even though Beth was not there, I had her youngest daughter as my back up if the wheels fell off the bus LOL!  She was already in the warmup and at the show ring with her actual students, so it was nice to have her there to remind me to breathe and not hang on the left rein!  ;-)
Ellie unloaded and was totally calm.  Honestly, she loves her lesson barn and knows it is her second home haha.  She was much calmer tied to the tra…

A REAL Dressage Coat

I have two riding coats.....an ancient black hunt coat and an "Ebay find" gray hunt coat. I have always wanted a "real" dressage coat, but just cannot afford it right now. Plus, having a perfectly suitable black jacket makes me wonder why I need a new one.

But I want a REAL one, with the silver buttons and the flap in the back. LOL!

I have been scouring Ebay, to no avail. Plus it is SO hard to find a coat on Ebay and not be able to try it on.

So I found this great UK shop that carries PIKEUR coats so cheap, like half price!!!!!! www.amirashop.co.uk And they are totally reputable! I emailed for more info on sizing, since it is all German and I have no idea what a size "36" means. LOL! Here is what I got back. Looks like I am a size 38 and want a Diana. :D We shall see......I am all about spending money lately, huh???

Hi Elizabeth,

Thank you for your e-mail, the Pikeur jackets are measured by chest circumference.

A German 34 has an approximate chest measurement of 32"

A German 36 has an approximate chest measurement of 33"

A German 38 has an approximate chest measurement of 34.6"

A German 40 has an approximate chest measurement of 36.2"

A German 42 has an approximate chest measurement of 37.8"

A German 44 has an approximate chest measurement of 40"

The Diana is a longer traditional style jacket

The Epsom is a slightly shorter "fashionable" style jacket

The Skarlett is a very short jacket - sitting by top of hips

The Ascona is similar fit to the Epsom with a slightly less fitted shape

The Ghia is same style as the Epsom but made with the new soft-shell fabric designed for all year (weather) competitions.

Please let me know if you need further advice.

  1. that is too much work for me! I had a pikuer coat that we all decided was cursed so my trainer has had it for like 5 years now and it is her show coat (it is lucky for her). I have not one, but two Devon-Aire Dressage coats (different sizes). I got both of them on sale at different times for $90 from Dover and let me just tell you I love them. They have the rigth cut, shinny buttons and fun lining (one is silver and the other is periwinkle). I think bettween my coat and the pikure though there is no contest. If you don't feel like going across the ocean to get a coat keep your eyes open to see if my coat is on sale. It might not be a pikeur, but it is good enough for me. If you do fork over the big bucks make sure you pikeur has a cool collar and cool lining...that is what sets them apart!

  2. Hey.
I just bought a Pikeur Doreen Dressage jacket. I got the size 38 so you definately would be ok with the 36. I had bought the 36 first and tried it on about 115 times at home, and it fit but it was just a wee bit snug. The 38 is a wee bit too loose, but it will be better then the one I had (think tent)
and I looooove the silver buttons too. I got it at Ricks when they had the 25% sale so I did not spend a fortune......
    Just my 2 cents....! H.

  4. Hi I hope that you ordered your Pikeur but I bought mine from the same company and order it in the beginning of May and it did not show up until the end of August after I threatened the company, but I love my Pikeur. I hope you have better luck.
