After Margaret and I had such a fun time at the fall hunter pace, we opted to go again this spring! This time, while I rode Rejoice again, Margaret rode her horse Jester and had a friend ride Ladyhawke. All Kennebec Morgans!! Jester and Rejoice have the same dam and Jester and Lady share the same sire. Unfortunately instead of a lovely late spring day, we had one of the first intensely hot and humid days of the year. It was definitely a bummer, but the ride was mostly in the shade of the woods and we had a great time! most of the fences were 3' coops but we found a small log and this hay to jump haha Until we didn't. 😑 We brought along a third friend who rode Margaret's older mare, Ladyhawke. She's a good rider but hasn't known Ladyhawke for very long and didn't realize how much of a cranky boss mare she could be at times. She kicked Jester right in the front leg just about halfway through the ride, and while the cut itself ended up not being a big deal in the
So far, my trip to the World Equestrian Games has been amazing. I am tired and need to sleep, so this is more of a quick update rather than the longer posts I plan to type eventually. :)
Dreamy and I left Maine last Thursday and drove to New Jersey to spend the night. We then went on to Kentucky, with our friends Helene and her Standardbred JB in tow. We also have two fabulous "grooms" Christie and Tania with us. :) We arrived in Kentucky on Friday night, and we stayed the night with the horses with our friends Justin and Laura, who live right outside of Lexington. Laura is also in the demo with her Standardbred mare Legs!
We had team practice at the Red Mile on Saturday and then moved into the Horse Park this morning! It has been a crazy whirlwind trip. This is seriously the most exciting equine experience of my thirty-one years.
Tonight was our first demo and it was OK. It was FREEZING and windy, but you cannot control the weather! LOL! Dreamy was PERFECT. She was not worried, she walked around on the buckle, and was just a good mare overall. (Why would I expect anything less??? LOL!) Things were a little off, such as the announcer reading our scripts REALLY slow which messed up the timing of our music and mispronouncing many things (such as "they compete in horse shoes.....um, I mean, horse SHOWS...."). And a part of the demo was changed at the very last minute which made Helene and my jumping course waaaaaaaay too tight. It bummed me out because then I could not actually DO my pre-planned jump course! So I just did a lot of cantering and big trotting around....grrrr!!! Oh well. :( Sometimes working as a TEAM is harder than it looks! ;-O Instead I am trying to just enjoy my time here in Kentucky and relish in the fact that I am riding my horse at WEG! :) It is an experience I will never have again!

Wow - how cool that you are riding Dreamy at WEG!! Hope you have time to get some shopping and spectating in too!
