Wentworth Hunter Pace - June 6, 2021

After Margaret and I had such a fun time at the fall hunter pace, we opted to go again this spring! This time, while I rode Rejoice again, Margaret rode her horse Jester and had a friend ride Ladyhawke. All Kennebec Morgans!! Jester and Rejoice have the same dam and Jester and Lady share the same sire. Unfortunately instead of a lovely late spring day, we had one of the first intensely hot and humid days of the year. It was definitely a bummer, but the ride was mostly in the shade of the woods and we had a great time!  most of the fences were 3' coops but we found a small log and this hay to jump haha Until we didn't. 😑 We brought along a third friend who rode Margaret's older mare, Ladyhawke. She's a good rider but hasn't known Ladyhawke for very long and didn't realize how much of a cranky boss mare she could be at times. She kicked Jester right in the front leg just about halfway through the ride, and while the cut itself ended up not being a big deal in the

NaBloPoMo Day #2

Day #2 - When I got her, from where, and why

Reva
Reva came into my life on July 3, 2009 when she was an unraced three year old.  I received her papers and officially owned her on April 20, 2010.  She was given to me by Carter Duer of Peninsula Farm in Kentucky.  His son John had her in training in New Jersey, but she was not going to make it in the stakes program.  My friend Rob was her groom at the time, and my other friend Helene had sent out an email with pics that Reva was looking for a new home.  I tried hard to ignore the first email, but on the second one I responded back asking how much they were asking for her.  There was something about her kind eye and presence that made me want her in my barn.  I really did not need another horse, but I knew that Dreamy would eventually have to be retired and I would need a young horse to ride.  It was not the right time, but I am glad I took the risk to have her shipped up to me in Maine, sight unseen!  I started her lightly, putting about 20 rides on her in two years.  This year (2011) she started showing and has done very well!

Dreamy
I brought Dreamy home on May 30, 2003 when she was 12 years old.  She officially become mine on December 25, 2006 when her owner sent me her papers for Christmas!  Dreamy was given to me as a free lease and then later "for keeps" by Jack McGee.  He had used her as a broodmare and wanted her to find a good home.  I originally had brought Dreamy here to my farm as a companion horse for Sparky, but eventually I decided to start riding her.  She was a completely untrained 15 year old broodmare when I finally started her under saddle.  Five years later, with 77 year end awards (over half of them championships and not including 2011) and 215 ribbons (a third of them blues!), I'd say she has been a successful show horse!

Sparky
My parents bought Sparky for me on January 17, 1993.  She was 1o years old and I was thirteen.  Sparky was my first horse and was the best first horse a young girl could ask for.  She had been born on the Morgan farm where I grew up, but had been bounced around to numerous owners over the years; I was her 11th owner in her ten short years.  My parents and I had spent over a year searching for the right first horse, and Sparky fell into our laps.  She was underweight and not the "fancy show horse" I had envisioned, but as soon as I met her I knew she had to become mine.  I am so glad my parents agreed to take a chance.  My mother has called her my "diamond-in-the-rough", and both my parents agree that Sparky helped shape my teenage years (and beyond) in a positive way.  I did everything with Sparky and she taught me how to be a patient and responsible rider and young person.
