Wentworth Hunter Pace - June 6, 2021

After Margaret and I had such a fun time at the fall hunter pace, we opted to go again this spring! This time, while I rode Rejoice again, Margaret rode her horse Jester and had a friend ride Ladyhawke. All Kennebec Morgans!! Jester and Rejoice have the same dam and Jester and Lady share the same sire. Unfortunately instead of a lovely late spring day, we had one of the first intensely hot and humid days of the year. It was definitely a bummer, but the ride was mostly in the shade of the woods and we had a great time!  most of the fences were 3' coops but we found a small log and this hay to jump haha Until we didn't. 😑 We brought along a third friend who rode Margaret's older mare, Ladyhawke. She's a good rider but hasn't known Ladyhawke for very long and didn't realize how much of a cranky boss mare she could be at times. She kicked Jester right in the front leg just about halfway through the ride, and while the cut itself ended up not being a big deal in the

Day 12 - Favorite horse color

To me, a good horse is a good horse no matter the color.  That said, I have grown up with chestnuts and bays between the Morgans and Standardbreds, and while I do love those colors, I think my most favorite coat color would be palomino.  I don't really know why, I just think they are flashy and more rare than the usual line up of black, bay, brown, chestnut.

The last time I was at Equine Affaire in MA in 2013 with Dreamy in tow for the Standardbred demos and a few clinics, I was stabled in Barn C across from a nice lady from NY who bred colorful Morgans.  Now, I am not a color breed person to be honest, but she did have a nice looking palomino Morgan of old style breeding that I liked the looks of.  As I said yesterday, I was worried I would miss out on my opportunity to own a Kennebec, so I had this woman in mind as a place to look when I was ready to buy a Morgan.

If I am ever in the market for another Morgan (highly doubtful any time soon, but who knows!), I will totally check out what is for sale because while she does breed for color, they are NICE looking western working line Morgans!

They are similar breeding I know...But i can see you with a palomino morgan too :)

  2. Flashy colors aren’t my thing but I do love when someone who breeds for color also creates nice horses in general.

    1. Exactly! I am not big on flashy colors other than a palomino, and it bugs me when I see horses clearly only bred for color with hideous conformation.

  4. Would you believe me if I told you palomino is not actually one of my favorite horse colors?

    1. Hahahaha, too funny! Which is why we can't judge a horse (or mule!) by its color.
