Wentworth Hunter Pace - June 6, 2021

After Margaret and I had such a fun time at the fall hunter pace, we opted to go again this spring! This time, while I rode Rejoice again, Margaret rode her horse Jester and had a friend ride Ladyhawke. All Kennebec Morgans!! Jester and Rejoice have the same dam and Jester and Lady share the same sire. Unfortunately instead of a lovely late spring day, we had one of the first intensely hot and humid days of the year. It was definitely a bummer, but the ride was mostly in the shade of the woods and we had a great time!  most of the fences were 3' coops but we found a small log and this hay to jump haha Until we didn't. 😑 We brought along a third friend who rode Margaret's older mare, Ladyhawke. She's a good rider but hasn't known Ladyhawke for very long and didn't realize how much of a cranky boss mare she could be at times. She kicked Jester right in the front leg just about halfway through the ride, and while the cut itself ended up not being a big deal in the

Day 26 - Biggest riding pet peeve

This is sort of a tough one!  There isn't much about riding that truly peeves me, because I just work hard and try to do the best I can for my horses.  One thing that does drive me kinda nuts when it rains what feels like every single day in the fall and my "ring" (aka, a flat corner of the turnout paddock/field) turns to slippery mud.  It dries out fine in the spring and summer, but once it turns colder, it just doesn't dry out well.  It's just a bummer because there is nothing I can do about it.  Eventually, I will have enough money saved up for a real ring with fantastic drainage!  Until then, I'm just patient and creative about where I ride (and cursing the rain, under my breath haha)!

I don't post pics of my kids much on social media, but these are just too darn cute not to share!  We were doing turn in and the mares always get a cookie each before we go back inside.

Ellie: Oh, hi tiny friend!  I see you have cookies!
Ellie: I like you and your truck, too!
Dreamy: Do you have more cookies, kid?

    1. Thank you! The 13 year old fed treats and was like, "Uhhh, I don't want to be in the photos!" Teenager boys are strange beings LOL! ;-)

  3. Ahh! Your critters love your kids too!

I love watching them all interact. It's so cool, especially when the horses know where the kids stand in the herd order and respect that.

    1. They do love them! And yes, even though I am SO careful, it is super cute to see them interact. My horses have always been so patient with the kids. I bet yours are too!

  5. Goodness, so much cute! Rain is the woooorst. I'm pretty sure the people who built my ring didn't put a base on it (really?!) but I'm still going to feverishly drag it until we freeze again so maybe it will freeze as a flat surface, and try to be thankful I have a sandbox at all :)

    1. Yeah, the fall seems to be super rainy the last few years, which is a bummer. My ring fund is not quite big enough yet, so I have to be patient! You are lucky to have something even if it is not perfect for sure! :-)
