Wentworth Hunter Pace - June 6, 2021

After Margaret and I had such a fun time at the fall hunter pace, we opted to go again this spring! This time, while I rode Rejoice again, Margaret rode her horse Jester and had a friend ride Ladyhawke. All Kennebec Morgans!! Jester and Rejoice have the same dam and Jester and Lady share the same sire. Unfortunately instead of a lovely late spring day, we had one of the first intensely hot and humid days of the year. It was definitely a bummer, but the ride was mostly in the shade of the woods and we had a great time!  most of the fences were 3' coops but we found a small log and this hay to jump haha Until we didn't. 😑 We brought along a third friend who rode Margaret's older mare, Ladyhawke. She's a good rider but hasn't known Ladyhawke for very long and didn't realize how much of a cranky boss mare she could be at times. She kicked Jester right in the front leg just about halfway through the ride, and while the cut itself ended up not being a big deal in the

Esprit Equestrian Center Dressage Show - August 25, 2019

Having tried Training 3 just the weekend before, I signed up to ride T3 twice at this Esprit show for a little extra practice. I didn't know if we would have any more opportunities to enter a dressage show again this year (spoiler alert: I did enter one more after this), and I really wanted to get a few more solid T3 tests under our belt before 2020, where the plan is to move up to First.

It was perfectly timed where I rode my first test at 9:15, then another rider did T3, and then I went back in for my re-ride.  I was only gone five hours from the time I left my farm until when I returned, and the show was just over an hour away.  THAT is the best kind of show haha!

I thought both tests went even smoother and Ellie was much more rideable from the beginning than the weekend before.

I tried to ride both tests accurately and was rewarded with an 8 on our serpentines!  For some reason, the geometry of the trot serpentines was tough for me when we first started practicing them in the spring.  Of course, it doesn't help that my ring at home is not a true 60m. long, so I only really got to practice them in a real ring in my lessons.

The first test scored a 67.93% and a third place and the reride was a 68.79% for second place!  We had two really solid tests, which is what I had hoped for by entering this show kind of last minute.  It felt really good to finally, FINALLY, be able to ride a test and feel confident in our abilities AND GET BOTH CANTER LEADS OMG.  True progress hahahaha.

blurry but she looks so darn cute

she was a bit spooky about the test runner who was standing way outside of the ring
and the truck that was parked just to the side of the judge's booth
but overall she handled herself well!
I am super proud of her stretchy trot circle, though I have had to work
HARD to not stretch my body down forward with her.
WTAF do I think I am helping LOL
