Wentworth Hunter Pace - June 6, 2021

After Margaret and I had such a fun time at the fall hunter pace, we opted to go again this spring! This time, while I rode Rejoice again, Margaret rode her horse Jester and had a friend ride Ladyhawke. All Kennebec Morgans!! Jester and Rejoice have the same dam and Jester and Lady share the same sire. Unfortunately instead of a lovely late spring day, we had one of the first intensely hot and humid days of the year. It was definitely a bummer, but the ride was mostly in the shade of the woods and we had a great time!  most of the fences were 3' coops but we found a small log and this hay to jump haha Until we didn't. 😑 We brought along a third friend who rode Margaret's older mare, Ladyhawke. She's a good rider but hasn't known Ladyhawke for very long and didn't realize how much of a cranky boss mare she could be at times. She kicked Jester right in the front leg just about halfway through the ride, and while the cut itself ended up not being a big deal in the

Dreamy's race history

I have been meaning to type up a post about Dreamy's race history for a while.  I just keeping forgetting.  Her race record is really not good at all, but I think it is neat nonetheless.  Going from a mediocre racehorse to a very good dressage and jumping horse makes me proud.  Dressage and racing have absolutely nothing in common!  Except maybe for the whole "you-use-a-horse" part.  ;-)  I will start with her first race and go from there...it's not like there are that many to list!  There is an obvious trend....she began in the NY Sire Stakes (NYSS) and ended up in pretty low classes at NY county fairs.  Poor filly!

She was scratched from a race the following week...reason is listed as SICK.  :(

She was scratched from another race in November.

And then again for her first race of her three year old year in June 1994....she ended up with chips in her ankles by the end of the year anyway.

Otsego Country Fair - NW1500 LT
4th - 2:21.0

Aug. 10, 1994
Chenango County Fair - NW 2500

Race 3 - 2nd - 2:14.0
Race 6 - 2nd - 2:12.0
I guess she raced twice that day.

Overall, she had 11 starts, three of which were only qualifiers.  She won $1029 in her lifetime.

So there ya have it!  My girl was not cut out to be a racehorse.....but that is OK to me, since she has been such a good saddle horse!  :)  But I still value her past and think it is neat to have her background.  :)

  1. Knowing their race history is so very cool. I love the idea that they have seen and done so much. My OTTB raced until he was 10 so he has a long history 75 starts. Though he has not proven himself as a great dressage and jumper yet. I hope we have the success you and Dreamy have had.

  2. I've been meaning to contact my list of Greta's 7 or so former owners, just to see what her training background is and why ANYONE would EVER want to sell her haha. I'm just afraid of what I might find. Ignorance IS bliss, afterall.

  3. Good thing she found a home with you! I think it would be neat to own and ex-racehorse and have some record of its past...

Have you had any problems with the chips in her ankles? Does that sort of problem/injury go away?

My poor old appy is a purebred, but his papers were lost along the way. I have no info beyond a bit of word of mouth info passed on from previous owners.

  4. Man she was SLOW! Haha. It's so great that she ended up in a good place with you after all that. I was lucky enough to know my guy from when he was a yearling on so I know speed wasn't his problem... attitude was! It seems like he and Dreamy are complete opposites.
