Wentworth Hunter Pace - June 6, 2021

After Margaret and I had such a fun time at the fall hunter pace, we opted to go again this spring! This time, while I rode Rejoice again, Margaret rode her horse Jester and had a friend ride Ladyhawke. All Kennebec Morgans!! Jester and Rejoice have the same dam and Jester and Lady share the same sire. Unfortunately instead of a lovely late spring day, we had one of the first intensely hot and humid days of the year. It was definitely a bummer, but the ride was mostly in the shade of the woods and we had a great time!  most of the fences were 3' coops but we found a small log and this hay to jump haha Until we didn't. 😑 We brought along a third friend who rode Margaret's older mare, Ladyhawke. She's a good rider but hasn't known Ladyhawke for very long and didn't realize how much of a cranky boss mare she could be at times. She kicked Jester right in the front leg just about halfway through the ride, and while the cut itself ended up not being a big deal in the

Driving Miss Snappy

Snap Dancer has a reputation for being a tough little race mare, but she is actually a peach to drive.  My friend Katie was her groom and she not only loved to sit behind Snap, but also her husband learned to jog with her!  She is like a jogging schoolmaster!  LOL!  ;-)

So, while I have been having a blast schooling her in dressage and jogging her under saddle, I have never driven Snappy.  I finally put together a harness for her (it has a lot less parts than a pleasure driving harness, that's for darn sure!) and my grandfather was kind enough to cut the long ends off one of his old wooden jog carts and rig it up with the quick hitch hardware.  My weekends were so packed that we did not have a chance to try it out as soon as I had hoped.
My son approved.
He actually brought it up to me the day of prom (April 27) but we did not get to give it a test until June 1!!   While I knew Snappy would be fine, I did want him there for our first try.  Of course, she was perfect!!!  I love driving her and cannot wait until I have the money to buy a pleasure carriage for her!

I finally got my son to take pics after we had jogged 2.5 miles!
Coming down to a walk...
All smiles!  She was super fun!  Can you see how HOT it was that day!?!  This was at 9AM but it made it to 90 degrees!
That's my grandfather coming out to help...

YAY!!!

  2. Very cool! I love it that your grandfather gave you an old cart and he was helping you with her. How awesome is that? :-)

And on another note - that looks like so much fun! I'm so glad that Snappy is working out so well for you.
